CRCST Renewal and Professional Development
Eight percent of the exam, and the only domain that keeps mattering every single year after you pass it.
The short answer
Professional Development and Human Relation Skills is 8% of the CRCST exam. HSPA requires 12 continuing education credits a year to renew the CRCST, with a flat $50 fee regardless of how many certifications you hold. Credits must have been earned inside your own renewal year, which shifts if you renew early or late.

What you need to know
Each point below carries the sentence from the public standard that supports it, with the date it was read. You are not being asked to take our word for any of it.
How many CE credits the CRCST needs
Twelve a year, and that figure is specific to the CRCST. Other HSPA credentials sit at six, and several of them also require the CRCST be kept current alongside them, so somebody holding two credentials is tracking two separate CE totals against a single renewal date.
Renewal is annual, not multi year
The cycle is yearly, which is shorter than many healthcare credentials and catches people out. The stated reason is on HSPA's own page: the field changes quickly enough that a multi year gap would let a certification describe practice that is no longer current.
The renewal fee is flat
Fifty dollars, no matter how many certifications you hold. The fee is flat but the continuing education is not: each additional credential brings its own credit requirement. Membership is a separate optional purchase on top, which is why the published figure shows up both as certification only and as certification plus membership.
The CE window that catches people out
Credits belong to the window they were earned in, and the window is anchored to the date of your previous renewal rather than to the calendar year. HSPA's published examples make the trap explicit: renewing early or late shifts the start of the next window along with it.
The deadline, and what a lapse costs
Renewals must be received no later than the expiration date, and the stated purpose is avoiding a lapse in current status. That matters because employment and privileging frequently depend on the credential being continuously current rather than eventually restored.
Reading is not the same as being ready
Knowing this domain and being able to answer questions on it under a clock are different skills, and the exam tests the second one. The free practice test is scored domain by domain, so it will tell you whether this one is actually costing you points or whether your problem is somewhere else.
